I'm norwegian, and yes it is. Instead of focusing on punishment, we focus on rehabilitation. Prisoners in norway are much easier to integrate to the society outside prison than prisoners that comes from prisons in america for example. In this way they can actually do some good after prison.

I think people coming out of thins kind of prison will be a lot better suited for society than ones coming out of the concrete hell holes we have in America.

Maybe the positive atmosphere in these prisons can rub off on the convicts(at least the ones not mentally disturbed), making them want to have a functioning life instead of leaving prison worse than when they arrived.

The reason prisons in the USA are the way they are is because the system is privatized. The people that run them want you to be in prison as long as they can keep you there. Pretty ****** up but having the government involved won't make it better.

We just studied this in social.. the reason it's so cushy is because their prison system is focused on rehabilitation rather than punishment

If you rob a bank in Norway, one out of two things will happen.
1. You get away and live the rest of your life as a king.
2. You get caught and live the rest of your life as a king.

I'm not gonna lie. Seeing a bunch of thieves and killers and rapists being treated humanely causes my jimmies to rustle a bit. However, I cannot deny that the results are desirable. We should not let our feelings get in the way of progress.

I think this is good. It looks more like rehabilitation rather than making someone suffer in a hole for the rest of their life.

This is the dumbest **** ever. They're criminals, they don't deserve all that **** . I'm mad about the few things prisoners in America get like a tv in their cell. **** that. A murderer lives better than a homeless person. If you're homeless just break the law, you'll get a temperature controlled indoor bed, 3 meals a day, a tv, and a **** load of other things. They have to pay for their crime. I want them to suffer.

The goal of this prison is a rehabilitation for low level offenders. Unlike American penitentiary prisons who's goals are to make prisoners simply sit there and reflect on what they have done, these prisons goals is to make prisoners into well rounded individuals who can become productive members of society. They are educated, well cared for, and given rejuvenating physical activities to make them social, physically, and mentally healthy. They still have a strict and rigid routine that normal prisons have and need to comply to have full use of the facilities. It is no day camp, but it isn't the hell hole found in most of prison environments. Most other prisons only cause simple first time offenders to turn into hardened thugs with the view of no real future after prison except for going into organized crime and gangs. It's not for everyone, you don't get to rape a dozen kids and decapitate the mailman to get sent here. Mostly white collar crimes and simple theft and drug charges.
