There are a few problems with the statement on that site.
First if you look at this graph that comes from the same page you can see that all the countries that have more crime rates are either Undeveloped or countries with a very small population.

In 2010, the amount of homicides in the US were between 14,000 and 16,000. 11,000 of those were homicides involving firearms.

Now, I'm not against guns, not at all. But the United States has a terrible attitude towards guns. For some reason, your country just can't handle it.

For example, about 30% of Canadian murder involved guns. About 70% of US murders involved guns.

So, lemme make you sure I'm reading this right;
US: Lots of guns, little bit of murder.
Right?

Interesting.

Go to source, see this:

Data Source: United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime: http://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/data-and-analysis/homicide.html. (Rates are for most recent year, since 2000, of available data.)

Follow link, download latest report. See that the source of the figures are from CTS but with the following footnote:

For the United States of America number of homicides by firearm is adjusted for limited coverage of homicide by firearm data by multiplying the total number of intentional homicides by the ratio of homicides by firearm.

I wonder why there is ‘limited coverage of homicide by firearm data’?

I hate to be THAT guy but, because many people are killed in third world countries, and gangster hellholes like some parts of Mexico, that makes it ok that their murder rate is like 50 times higher than most European countries? look how many countries is near 0 murders, guess what that's Europe. sometimes graphs doesn't show a true picture. and people who disagree, please ohh please show some numbers that shows that guns are good. Balotelli is tired of your crap

There are more guns than people in the state of Wyoming.

Never hear about school shootings there.

Seeing a lot of bickering going on and I think people are not reading this graph right. The US is way on the right, meaning there are close to 90 firearms per 100 people. But it's also very low on the elevation with, eyeballing it, around 5 murders per 100,000 people.

That's not bad considering the data on the left which shows FEW firearms and TONS of murders. The highest rated dot is over 90 murders per 100,000 people and yet roughly 10 fire arms per 100 people. So this is basically pro-gun because we have tons of guns and few murders.

Which country is the one with about 7 guns per 100 people and about 92 murders?

You realize how easy these statistics can be manipulated
EX: any crime involving a firearm can be written as a gun crime
Now, that seems obvious, but lets clarify this
Any crime where a gun is PRESENT can be a gun crime. As an example, lets say I were to rob your house, and you catch me, and the police check to see what I took, whatever. If there was a gun in your house, even legally bought, that's a gun crime.
The problem with out country isn't the guns.
The same time the Connecticut school shooting happened, a guy stabbed 23 school kids in China
The reason of our high homicide rate, is because of drug laws. Compare our strict incarceration system on drugs to an eastern country. Not to mention -- what was it again -- 1 in 4 incarcerations are drug related? Now that was a 2005 statistic, so don't quote me, but think about that. 25%? That's insane.

Now if we look at another graph from the same source we will find out that every country on that list that has a higher murder rate than the US is a third world shit-hole. So all this shows is that the US has a much higher murder rate than every other country with the same level of development. Lrn 2 comprehend.

and i'm guessing about 90% of the countries above America are LEDC's

Out of a random sample of 100 Americans, they should own almost 90 guns?

Jesus tits that's a lot.
User avatar #148 - facedodge (02/06/2013) [-]
That means we cream everyone in the guns to murders category.
