Well up until the late 60's black we're considered inferior and many came to believe it. Black history month was invented as a means of showing they had something to be proud of, but that seems a tad outdated now. I think they just haven't found a good way to end it yet...

Well, now that you know what the internet thinks, the truth is the creation of "Black History Month" was integral into including the African Americans into the rest of the population. So we decided to celebratet their history as a means to show the rest of America that African Americans have a rich history and are just as equally capable as the next American. The problem is the celebration of Black History was only meant to be that until we could, as a whole, celebrate Black History as American History. Our government which moves at a retarded snail's pace, hasn't really done anything about this "holiday" that the majority of people could care less about. I believe that, as it stands today, "Black History Month" is just another thing keeping the races segregated. To be completely forthcoming, I think any of these "pride" days or parades or holidays are a means to seperate groups from the herd. I just wish that we, as Americans, could live up to the potential we hold and truly embrace all of our citizens. Instead we'll just continue with ancient ways and stir the shit every 2nd month of the year.

History as we know it is already so Eurocentric that there's no point in having a white history month, and May is Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

Well. White people have every other month of the year so that's why we don't have "a" month. Asians get all the high paying math jobs so they are happy enough without one.

Black History Month really irks me though. Their history is entwined in everyone else's history and should therefor not get it's own month. I don't give my fucking black crayola a special spot just because it's black. My little cousin in elementary doesn't say "Look at all my different colored crayons, especially this black one, because, you know... it's color had a hard time in the past."
