You know, I used to be the exact same way. My parents raised me extremely straight edge, and I never really deviated from it growing up; what did I REALLY have to miss?
I have a question for you, and it's a completely serious one. I'm going to assume you've never been drunk, correct?
I'm going to say, and I don't have all the experience with it in the world, but from what I've seen, the drunkard depends on the person. I've seen people go full retard when they get drunk. Myself having been quite inebriated on a few occasions, I get dumb but I don't get stupid. My thought process slows, I can't recall information nearly as easily, motor functions impaired, the normal shit, but I've yet to have impulse to actually do things that will have a negative consequence without thinking it through and deciding against it, other than "hey pass me another beer/shot"
If you want to continue this discussion with someone who has now been on both sides, feel free to message me. I won't try to sway you either way, but I'll hopefully be able to explain a bit better and maybe settle a concern or two of yours.

I haven't been drunk because everyone always uses beer, and the stuff makes me want to vomit. I've had some wine, never enough to get drunk, though. I don't want to get drunk because I'm afraid I'll overdo it and throw up or hurt myself, like when I smoked too much.
The couple of times I have really overdone it, the worse that's happened to me (so far) is that I stumble all over the place and need to piss CONSTANTLY (always in the toilet so far).
Obviously, I haven't lived my whole life so I can't say I have all the experience in the world with it. I'd suggest if you find yourself in a situation where people are drinking and you have a few important people with you or a love interest that you don't want to see them get too messed up, after a little while see about maybe pulling them away from the drinks and going off to do something else still at the party - dance (even if you suck, when everyone else is drunk nobody cares) watch a movie if they have one playing, if they're playing a card game with drinks grab a glass of soda or something, etc.
People are gonna be people. It's really hard to get people to not do something if you don't want them to do it. I learned that the hard way with my ex. Oddly, after her, my life outlook on a LOT of things really loosened up. I kinda just took a chill pill and decided to see how stuff goes instead of having preconceived notions about it, which is what I had been judging everything off of previously.
The biggest thing is that if it makes you uncomfortable, don't do it. If the situation itself makes you uncomfortable, setp outside for a bit, or hell, just leave. You don't want to get yourself stuck between a rock and a hard place where you're going to do things that you're gonna regret if you're really opposed to the idea.
