But in the social sense it does. Many words we use today had a completely different meaning before.
Asexuality may not be entirely new, but it is still lesser known and as time goes on people will understand it better.

When I was younger and people would call someone a "hoe" all I could think of was gardening and assumed they were a gardener. As time progressed I learned the meaning and accepted it.

But, ultimately, the desire to have sex is what fuels a species so to not have desire for it is just odd, not just from a social perspective but from an evolutionary perspective as well.

Not in present day times.
The desire was important back in the day when there were oh so little people. But today we have billions, to feel the need to create more is only necessary for a few million of us to continue to thrive as a species.
That same argument has been used against gay sex as well.
But for each person they only need to pump out 1 child and some pump out 2 or more so it evens out.

Being asexual doesn't mean you WON'T procreate, it just means you don't feel the need to have sex for pleasure. I would probably have sex if I actually felt an attraction to someone and wanted a child. But that is it.
