Yes. I applied for an (unpaid) internship to dozens of hospitals in my state and got turned down every damn time because they already had too damn many interns. I ended up having to move eight hundred miles away and across five state lines so I could provide free labor for a hospital. Now I'm stuck in the deep south, living in a neighborhood with a bunch of fucking drug dealers.
tl;dr- FUCK YOU.

If anyone here is still in high school take some R.O.P classes now. I took one for the restaurant business and it had me work as a busser for like a month. But that's experience. That job was the only reason i got hired at my now restaurant job which i started as a busser and now i moved up to where i make some dam good money for a 20 year old. Also if you're lucky enough to get a job at a fast food place, take it! Then when you apply for better jobs. Bam experience, i have a friend who thinks he's to good for fast food so he applys everywhere else but no one will hire him. I live in a place that is extremely difficult to get jobs so that's my advice. Also for volunteering, don't be prissy. Do something! Clean garbage and shit. Don't expect to do the things that are nice and fun. It's different in different places so that's my advice for harder citys.
TL;DR If you live in a place where it's super difficult to get even easy jobs just fucking read it

Yeah, but all work is not treated equal when it's time for career development. I mean you do what you gotta do to pay the bills when all is said and done, but if you're an engineer or finance analyst or chemist, nobody gives half a shit about fast food experience. That's why internships are so important, although there are typically very few internships (often unpaid) that have very strict requirements and high competition. Oh and if at a university, doing undergraduate research is also a big plus, but is once again not the easiest at times.

What I did was work for some family friends for 6 months, part time after school, then worked at a supermarket, then worked my way up from there
you could just do work experience that most school have for a week in year 10
like me I went to a graphics company for that week and now i work there

Do some volunteering before sending out hundreds of applications. I had to apply to like 80-100 places before I got my first job.
First job was at a water slide park where i didn't have to be formerly trained as a lifeguard
but I get to claim I was a lifeguard since that was my job title.
employers eat that shit up thinking im all responsible and athletic. truth is id just sit next to the slide
with a gameboy all day and push a button to send people down slides.
