The American constitution’s 2nd amendment needs an update if you ask me, but i doubt the update will have results in our lifetime. To stop the craving for guns in America one must change the culture as a whole.
And that will take time.
But it is possible if the people want to stop shooting eath other.

Why do we need to "stop the craving for guns in America"? It has been proven time and again that disarming innocent people does not protect innocent people. Criminals will always find ways to commit their crimes; a shooter won't be foiled because he can't legally procure a gun. If he shoots a dozen people, the last thing he'll be tried for is illegal possession of a firearm. This stuff seriously hinders our community's ability to fight crime. Police in New York are having serious issues since magazines with a capacity of over 10 rounds have been banned. All their Glocks hold more than 10 rounds.

Tl,dr: trying to get rid of guns will have the opposite affect of what is intended.

I agree and that's why a change in the American culture is needed. the whole idea of "fighting crime" must be changed to a point of a more preclusive crime system. a prison system where the focus is on rehabilitation so that people who have committed crime will be helped to be productive members of society.
Most prisoners are normal people who have made mistakes or simply haven’t received the care to function in a community.
Of course there will be a small group of the criminals who are beyond saving, and they must be locked away as they should.

Tl;dr Hard prisons create hard criminals. Thus though rehabilitation prisoners will be less likely to use violence because of the rehabilitation they will receive in while serving their shorter terms, The non-criminals will now not need to own guns because the criminals won’t use guns.

How many of the recent shootings have been committed by criminals who have made parole and decided to commit another crime? A more-effective rehabilitation system is not the answer. We need to discourage criminals in the first place. When an NYC newspaper published a map of gun-owners and their residences, crime skyrocketed. Why? Because the burglars suddenly had a map of all the houses that had a gun for defense, and those that didn't.

Because criminals aren't going to give up something they benefit from.

The 2nd amendment is perfect unless intentionally misread.
