when most people think of an assault weapon the first thing to come to mind is an AK-47 or what ever the fuck the standard american fully automatic rifle is (i don't give a fuck don't bother telling me) which is what the "AR-15" looks like to most people. the top one looks like it'd only fire one round at a time so people are less worried about it.
the government is more concerned with the ownership of automatic weapons, they don't really care if its a minigun or a pistol, assault weapon is just a general term which unfortunately include weapons with assault in the name (AR presumably stands for assault rifle).

never said they were, if you reread #2 i said that most gun-illiterate people think of automatic weapons when the term assault rifle is used. there is a difference between restriction and ban. automatic weapons may have been restricted but they were still available, once they have been banned no functional automatic weapon will be legal
Lol, dude you ARE gun-illiterate.
Assault Rifles are fully automatic, thats actually a requirement. Assault Weapons are semi-auto only.
Not to be a dick, but I know this will come out badly, but people like you shouldnt make any laws about firearms, but thats not the case.
Besides, fully automatic weapons are restricted SO much that they are the price of a good used car. Your every day thug will not have an automatic.

but they are still available is what i'm trying to get at. as long as they are available they will be an unnecessary risk to those around them (unnecessary because there is no reasonable need for a fully automatic weapon).
and i never said i was gun literate, this is just the point of view from someone who is not a redneck and does understand why they want to ban them

^Implying that anybody who knows or cares or enjoys guns is a redneck. Additionally, I would advise reading up on guns and current gun law before trying to verbally duke it out with somebody who has been shooting their whole life and/or has been or is in the military and/or a marksman and/or a gunsmith, simply because a good debate and conversation can't be had if you don't know what's going on.
Listen, I can try explaining to you how fully automatic weapons are indeed not a danger, but I know you're not going to listen so Im done with this conversation. I have grown tired of talking about gun law with people since I have to say the same shit over and over again. If you honestly care just dig through some of my past comments.
i have yet to see you say anything saying that automatic weapons are safe, restrictions still allow automatic weapons to circulate while expensive they are still allowed so they don't mean a whole lot. and for that matter i have yet to see why they are even available for civilian ownership in the first place

All guns are equally dangerous. It can be argued that a fully automatic weapon is indeed LESS dangerous than a semiautomatic weapon. The government is NOT afraid of fully automatic weapons, those have been taken care of already. The government IS afraid of guns in Call of Duty.

A few things:
1) The AR15 mostly resembles an M4, an automatic weapon that is unavailable to the general public. They are visually similar, but functionally different.
2) AR stands for "ArmaLite," the first company to produce the AR15. It is commonly misinterpreted as "assault rifle"
