It's more of your decisions shift the story in different directions, at different points. Do this thing, and that won't happen and you won't be in this place and you won't talk to that person, but this will happen, you will talk to this person, so on and so forth. Basically, it's almost like reading a book where you alter the way the story flows.

The route you end up on is determined by the choices you make in the game.
