Coke and Pepsi are actually oligopolies, which means they are like monopolies, but there are a few big companies in one market rather than one. Basically, they need each other to survive. When one company raises its prices, guess what? The price of the other goes up as well. Learned this in CP Economics, guys, cmon now

I'm not sure that they are. There are loads of other drink manufacturers. There's:

Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, AriZona, Big Red, Cott, National Beverage, Blenheim, Jolt, Jones Soda, Goya, Sam's Choice, and Sarsi

Of course these are just the more popular ones in the United States. There are loads of lesser known companies, each with their own sodas, and hundreds of regional drink companies in the United States alone. Most supermarkets also have their own brand of drinks now as well.

To say that Coke and Pepsi are oligopolies and receive little to no competition is false. They may be the biggest manufacturers, but they are far from alone.

They do receive little competition, it's just that little is still far from none. As it is, their sales each probably far exceed the combined sales of the others, however the existence of the others still serves to keep them from raising their prices as that would cause that trend to change.
