But because of YOU guys pirating their music, they were only able to get a regular swimming pool, and not one made out of gold.

You should be ashamed.

The Beatles are the most over rated band ever. I think that if people were left to form their own opinion about them most people would like them, maybe even love them, but very few would see them as the gods everyone sees them to be now. Their hype is mostly generated by the their own hype. Same as Elvis.

tl;dr Society is very impressionable.

"The fact that so many books still name the Beatles “the greatest or most significant or most influential” rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success: the Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worth of being saved."

Piero Scaruffi

Duke Ellington had more top 10 hits in the US than the Beatles. He probably had three or four times as many top 20 hits. I don't have the exact numbers, but John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" and "Blue Train" are among the best-selling jazz albums.

So all of the above is a load of BS. One could just as well claim that Ellington is only popular with critics because of the unbelievable number of hits he produced.

Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" is the best-selling jazz album of all time, and I am sure there are many people who would rank Davis higher than Ellington or Coltrane. Are they doing that because of his sales numbers? Herbie Hancock had some huge record sales as well, yet I doubt that these sales numbers are the reason why he is a well-respected musician. But when it comes to the Beatles, they are popular with rock critics only because their records sold well? Uh... why? Because you don't like them?

Let me tell you why you're wrong you ******* spastic.
One direction are one of the most hated boy-band scurrently around. When they were compared to the beatles there was a massive ragefest of butthurt ******* all over funnyjunk crying about it without ever considering why they were compared.

Let me run you through it using a lyrical comparison.
Here are some one direction lyrics:

Baby you light up my world like nobody else,
The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed,
But when you smile at the ground it ain't hard to tell,
...etc...

I can tell you were cringing as you read those, rightly so. Well, my poorly educated fellow, allow me to present to you some equally terrible and pathetic lyrics from the so-called greatest band on earth:

Oh please say to me
You'll let me be your man
And please say to me
You'll let me hold your hand

See the similarities? Yep that's right, they've both been manufactured into a commercial product aimed to make all girls 12-17 wet like they've been through a monsoon. So next time you think about the beatles don't think about them as this amazing and influential band, think of them as that band that taught your mother the joys of masturbation at the age of 12.

butthurt bias ******** .

i love the "he Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way)" part.
Making up a false statement and saying that the false statement is false. not bad
User avatar #52 to #51 - cryingchicken (01/31/2013) [-]
haha, you actually think the beatles were anything other than your mothers favourite boy-band?
#55 to #52 - barenakedqueens (01/31/2013) [-]
I'll admit that their first albums were simple and unoriginal, but from Sergeant Pepper on the Beatles changed rock music in a way that not many bands could. They may not be the greatest rock band of all time, but I'll be damned if they're not in the top ten.
User avatar #56 to #55 - cryingchicken (01/31/2013) [-]
>implying rock will ever be good enough to deserve a top 10 list. grow up kid.
User avatar #117 to #56 - psychopsychedelic (01/31/2013) [-]
Rock isn't good enough for a top ten list?
So you're saying we can't compare any rock artists to each other, because the genre isn't part of your musical taste. So THE REST OF THE WORLD can't make a top ten list in a genre with hundreds of artists.

THE REST OF THE WORLD, as in, the fact that people exist on this planet besides you.
Might wanna think about that.
#119 to #117 - cryingchicken (01/31/2013) [-]

music is objective, rock is objectively bad and the beatles are objectively terrible. your opinion is wrong.

What I meant was that you could call them “the greatest or most significant or most influential” rock band ever without looking like a complete idiot. Bringing up a meaningless technicality won't help your point buddy
User avatar #64 to #58 - cryingchicken (01/31/2013) [-]
The only reason you could call them that without looking like an idiot is because everyone else is enough of an idiot to believe you. do you even scaruffi?

#49 to #48 - anonymous (01/31/2013) [-]
Unsourced claims count as an opinion nowadays? If we water down the meaning of the word further, then in a few years, a wet burp will count as an opinion and a yawn as a valid counter-argument.
User avatar #50 to #49 - vetis (01/31/2013) [-]
He stated the opinion of the English people as a whole. Yes, he probably only knows from the people he knows, and it could be untrue, but it's still an opinion. So I'm not sure what you're getting at. Your argument is it's not an opinion, when even my cat sitting next to me can tell that much. The only question is how many people share the opinion as opposed to how many he stated.
#67 to #50 - anonymous (01/31/2013) [-]
Weird definition of "opinion". If it were an opinion, he would have stated:
"I think that on the whole, english people don't like Paul McCartney."
But he stated it as if it is a fact. Which is isn't.
User avatar #69 to #67 - vetis (01/31/2013) [-]
**** , valid point. I gotta hand this argument to you. GG.
