If I were to defuse a real bomb. I would cut the gate off the mosfet or the base off the transistor, (whatever that is used. ) the mosfet or transistor would be the final gate that opens up and releases the current to the explosive device. It would not know if these wires were cut. Because if there was any kind of power to the base/gate the bomb would explode.

I would walk away.

what if it were wired with a not gate, so that the mosfet HAD to have current at the base to keep the bomb from exploding?
User avatar #14 to #8 - mookiez (01/30/2013) [-]
Okay. If it uses a not gate to apply current to the base, then it obviously does not send the current to the bomb, yet. It would most likely send it to an op amp, so when the voltage is dropped the the op amp picks up on this and turns on opening another mosfet or, and gate. So Maybe cutting the ground off the op amps power in. Maybe. I think that is how it would work.

But nice comment most would never think of that.

Then. I. Damn You anon I have to think on that.

or just douse it in liquid nitrogen. the electrons wouldn't be able to move, because the energy would be too low, ergo, no electricity flowing through the device. ta-da, bomb defused.
User avatar #9 to #7 - mookiez (01/30/2013) [-]
Electrons not moving means no voltage. or lowered voltage. The bomb could have something that detects the drop in voltage that sets off the device. The transistors and mosfets I talked about can be very sensitive. so sensitive that .01 volt can activate the base/gate opening the transistors/mosfets( think of them as electronically controlled gates) I don't know if I would do Your idea, The bomb could detect that and and send that power to the triggering device and blow it up. If they use op amps which are even more sensitive to electrical changes it would be more dangerous. temperature effects the voltage not the amps. Higher temps higher voltage and vise versa. even though Your idea does make a lot of since. someone with a lot of electrical knowledge and parts used would not use that idea of fear of the electrical change sending the bomb off. And it the circuit could even have a thermistor which detects temperature and that connected to the transistor or mosfet to set the bomb off. There are so many damn variables in these damn things.

.. that sounds scary.

I'll be going into the army soon. Even though I'm 19 and I have vast electrical knowledge. I will not be defusing bombs. So many variables. I''m not taking any chances with it. I'm going to be an engineer for them and go to college in there. Since I can't get any financial aid for college. damn greedy assholes. But no. I'm not going to be defusing bombs. But I do give My self a 75% of success considering I have never done it....

when it comes to bomb defusal, I'd say a 75% success rate is not very good haha.

but no, good for you. going to school in the military is a really good financial decision, plus you'll get some really good work experience

Indeed. But I saw going in as a no choice kind of thing where I could get My training. But looking on it now. I can retire when I'm 40 and pull a nice check till the day I die for nothing. And My dad has always wanted Me to go in for better training I would receive. I did want to go in at all at the beginning. But now I'm excited to go in and start My career. Just gotta get through boot camp first...

have fun. I go to the gym regularly, but I think I'd probably die in boot camp.

Thanks. And yea. It's gonna suck ass when I go.

Did not want to go at the beginning*
