A psycho goes on a rampage. He can do much more damage if he can easily get a gun. Not 100% the guns fault, but without a gun lives would be saved

We can't outright ban guns. If someone wants a gun, they are going to find one regardless of legislation. Also, we can't deny the right for people to arm themselves.

The solution is to focus more attention on helping the mentally ill and working towards rehabilitation, kind of like what voltkills said. Social welfare in general would increase the standard of living, making violence less likely.

The simple answer is that there is no 100%, black-white solution to human violence. We are going to have to work together in order to prevent violent crime, and it ain't gonna be easy.

I, personally, advocate for the increased purchasing of non-lethal forms of protection (tasers, etc.)
