Excuse me
We have to sleep because it is essential to maintaining normal levels of cognitive skills such as speech, memory, innovative and flexible thinking. In other words, sleep plays a significant role in brain development.A good way to understand the role of sleep is to look at what would happen if we didn't sleep. Lack of sleep has serious effects on our brain's ability to function. If you've ever pulled an all-nighter, you'll be familiar with the following after-effects: grumpiness, grogginess, irritability and forgetfulness. After just one night without sleep, concentration becomes more difficult and attention span shortens considerably.(I got this of the internet)

And yes true. sleep does affect the brain. One time I tried some suboxone to get high. It is givin to people to help them come off opiates such as lortab or percocet. first time I did this it kept Me up for 3 days strait at least 80 some hours with no sleep. I felt like **** . My hard was pounding, I was seeing stars and the walls were moving in coming in on Me. this was from lack of sleep not the drug. And The whole time I had no sleep I was out doing construction physical hard labor on no sleep. I threw up on the second day. And at the end of it I just ended up passing out at home right on the floor. I awoke 20 some hours later and still felt ****** . I vowed never to do that drug again because You can't sleep on the **** .

branching off from what #96 said, but i think the reason they are asking why we need it is because it's a vulnerability which takes up 6-8 hours of a day. We know what is does and how it helps but they're probably wondering why wasn't a different method developed over the evolution of species

it's true, i've pulled out all nighters all the time, and after just one day of not getting any rest, my body just says, **** you i wont listen to you. i get massive headaches, my body starts to tremble whenever i stand for more than one minute, i feel dizzy and i get so annoyed at everyone and everything. the part that freaks me out and gets my butt to bed is the headaches and the body temblors.

They're talking about the reason we feel tired, chemically, not mentally
