I wonder what would happen if we did that. Went back in time and made sure religion in all forms never existed...

We'd probably still be behaving like cavemen with absolutely no technology due to fact that people wouldn't cooperate long enough because everyone was busy trying to please themselves at the moment. No law, no order, people killing each other relentlessly." All this stuff about the holocaust and crusades would have never happened" irritates me because without "religion" people would never have developed a society for which these thing could happen and instead everyone would be dying of disease, murder, women would probably be raped regularly, beaten, etc... I have nothing against atheists but I really hate anti-religious people because they are almost always as intolerant as the very people they denounce, most commonly attacking modern day christians who can be some of the nicest people you could ever meet, I admit there are the muslim extremists who are basically wastes of flesh, but this "the world would be a much better place if there was never any religion" stuff is really annoying. I'm pretty sure gang members weren't asking themselves "what would Jesus do" and the guy who shot all those kid in Newport wasn't thinking about God when he shot his mom and all those kids.
I think this is the longest comment I've ever made in all my funnyjunk history. Rant over ( I don't know what people mean when they say ranting on the internet doesn't solve anything I just let off a lot of steam just now)

Religions were kind of necessary back in its hay-day. People were a lot less educated, so the bible, the Quran, and the Torah were mainly used as guidance so the people would believe there was always a greater consequence for something they would do that may have been morally wrong. Not to mention that religion also gave way for many innovations that may have been unavailable if the creators didn't have access to materials brought to them by church connections, or trade routes established by common views in religion. As for the wars that occurred because of religion, if they hadn't happened when they did, it was just inevitable for them to happen in the future. So although they may have been horrible events, at lease we can be more assured that society wouldn't let something of that caliber of evil to happen again. Now, however, society has advanced enough to the point and gained enough of a basis on what is and isn't morally wrong, so religion is no longer a necessity to our society's survival, but rather to be used as more of a comfort method.

Why do you put it like the judeo-christianic religions were the only ones, or first? Most of them is a rip-off from mazdaism put in a language of Greek philosophy. There were neither necessary, nor beneficial for culture. Especially Islam.

I used those religions specifically as an example because they are the most prominent in today's society, and because the comic which this whole thread was started from was speaking on terms of the Christian bible. I said they were crucial to society's survival simply because it was an easier way to have the populace follow a certain set of rules without seeming like a dictator directing every movement of each civilian. It just made it so there would be less people willing to commit a crime simply because they were afraid of the punishment they would receive in the "after-life." I would say Islam was beneficial simply because it organized a fast amount of people and attempted to teach them simple morals like those taught in the Bible and the Torah, and it also reflected on the importance of peace in society. Unfortunately, there are radical religious groups within Islam that tarnish the religion's name as a whole. Similar to the WBC with Christianity.

What if you went back in time and one of those religions was true?
