I used to live in a place where they would pump the gas for you

It spoiled me

Now I have to get out of my car, go into the Gas Station, give the guy my money, tell him what pump, pump it myself, and then go get my change

I wish they still did it for me

I'm in Canada, and here in NS for most gas stations you pump first pay second. We also have self serve and full service (employees do it).

"put $40 on pump 3, unleaded gas"
"ok"
*go back and pump gas, "hmm look at that it only took $36.42 to fill up my car, better go get my $3.58 change from the guy so i can buy a soda pop later if i want!"

Actually I went up to new jersey to visit my sick grandfather in 2011, it's illegal to pump your own gas there.

Seriously? Where I live, we get out of the car, pump, and then go into the gas station to pay. Much easier this way

it used to be like that where i lived but too many people would have fake licence plates on their cars and just drive off without going in to pay so now i have to pay first. mfw they expect me to know how much it will take to fill the car.

"mfw they expect me to know how much it will take to fill the car."

do you not drive you car enough to roughly figure out how much money your car takes to fill up? my 12 gallon car at a price in the range of $3.10-3.40 roughly takes $35-45 to fill up, or ABOUT $10 per quarter tank. just hand the guy a $40-50 dollars, fill up, and then go get you change.... it's not that hard

Except that people routinely pump gas and then drive off because they know they can't (or don't want to) pay for it.

yeah where i live you can either pay at the pump and drive off, or fill up first then go inside to pay. you just say which pump you are and your total comes up

and if people drive off, the cameras catch the liscense plate and they get charged.

I used to work at a gas station, but we were pay first.

The pumps didn't even activate without a cash payment inside, or swiping your debit/credit card outside.

As for the filling up and fleeing, licence plates are easy to change.

We pay with credit card at the pump.
I take one step out of the car, pay at pump, choose what pump i'm using and fill that baby up. 1 step to get back into the car and drive off.
