Physical punishment is not effective. Just because it worked in your scenario does not mean it holds true. I was only spanked once in my life, my parents normally just talked to me/grounded me, and it worked. In general, physical punishment only teaches children to not do the action when their parents are around, it doesn't embed the desired behavior.

"Our generation was so much better than the new generation" - every generation

There are plenty of good kids now, there were plenty of assholes then. And even if they were truly worse, there are quite a ton of other factors at play here.

“I really think it’s crazy that we hit our kids. Here’s the crazy part about it; kids are the only people in the world that you’re allowed to hit. Do you realize that? They’re the most vulnerable and the most destroyed by being hit but it’s totally OK to hit them. And they’re the only ones! if you hit a dog they will put you in jail for that sh*t. You can’t hit a person unless you can prove that they were trying to kill you. But a little tiny person with a head this big who trusts you implicitly: ‘F**K ‘EM, WHO GIVES A SH*T! LET’S ALL HIT THEM!’ People want you to hit your kid. If your kid is making noise: ‘HIT HIM! HIT ‘EM!’”

CPS is so afraid of the possibilities nowadays that they'll take kids away from their parent for mere accidents that leave bruises. It's downright pathetic.

It doesn't say if one thing happens then the other thing will. It said the stress of the punishment leads to an increase in symptoms. Maybe you're just a badass then

I'm currently pregnant and the subject of discipline was brought up. I myself probably won't spank my child, probably just a slap on the wrists as I feel spankings should be left to the dad, which is how it's going to go. I have no objections.

Harsh physical punishment only teaches kids not to perform the action when you're around, it does not embed the behavior as a moral. Light physical punishment can be alright, just be careful not to overdo it

actually punishment needs to be dealt out as soon as they're caught misbehaving, otherwise the child forgets what it is that they were in trouble for.

Strange, it was the other way around when I was little. My mother would spank me (although very rarely), and my father would slap the back of my hands pretty damn hard.
