Some fun facts about these bad boy ships as told to me by my navy buddy
1. If they are going forward at full speed and shoot forward it will actually stop the ship dead in it's tracks for a brief moment.
2. They brought a few classic battleships such as the one seen above out of retirement to serve as floating artillery support in the middle east.
3. If a football is put in a sabot and shot up and out into the wind and the ship is steaming forward at full steam also into the wind the football will land back onto the ship. The same thing can happen when you put a football on the catapult of an aircraft carrier.
4. It was said the these 16 inch barrels could shoot a 2,700 pound shell 21 miles and hit a dime. It was never confirmed because it destroyed the dime.

"The same thing can happen when you put a football on the catapult of an aircraft carrier."

How would this be possible with an aircraft catapult?

the aircraft catapult is the slide built into the deck of the ship to launch the jets off and give them extra lift. You can launch a huge amount of weight a long range. They use to show off their catapults by putting a football onto the little wheel carriage that slings the aircrafts wheels, and watching it go up and out. To prove the ships speed also, they would steam into the wind. The ball will naturally fall back towards the point it came from if launched into the wind, and the ship moving forward can close the distance. If done just right the ball falls back to the deck.

I know what it is I just have no idea how to strap a football to one and watch it fly back onto the ship.

First comment is false
The Iowa Class has been brought out of retirment several times, the last time was back in the 1990s during Desert Storm
Cool Story bro
There is no way for the shell to be accurat enough to hit a dime, however, the gun would be accurate enough land close enough for the dime to be in the blast radius.

Dad was on the Enterpirse, first Nuke ship ever.
He still says he ******* hates it.

The Enterprise wasnt a nuke ship. it might have been used at one point to transport the atom bombs but that doesnt make it a nuke ship. it was a air craft carrier and nothing more.

There's been more than one Enterprise.

Nuke ship means that it was powered by a nuclear reactor, friend.

Probably because aircraft carriers suck for nuke engineers. Almost as ****** as subs.

I think they just recently retired the Enterprise.
