No, he means that the whole point of the IQ system is that the world average is 100.
So if everyone got smarter, the average would still be 100, but it would mean something slightly different.

He only did it in America. Everywhere else kept their stupid people, so there would probably only be a small adjustment, because USA has about 4% of the world's population.

Everyone you meet is smarter than you in some way. Everyone you meet can do something better than you can. While someone may seem stupid to you, due to a judgement based on 'They can't do math that well, therefore they are stupid' to them, the fact that you can't change your own oil, or some other handy-work skill, makes them think 'Sheesh, is this guy STUPID or what?'

Actually, a trend just implies something getting popular, while you may not like it because of friends, a lot of people, even without knowing it, are heavily influenced by friends/family. Now, I get 'following a trend' is different from just a 'trend,' before you hop on that train.
