What I believe is that it develops over time. Your sexuality is like your growth. As you get older things change. For some it takes a bit longer to know what your sexuality is causing them to be sexually confused. It was this way for me when I was younger. This is just a theory though.

All people start out as females in the womb, including female sexual preferences ( i.e. liking men). Then, hormones kick in to instruct the fetus to become male. This however does not affect the brain, for that we have androgen receptors and androgen hormones. The receptors and hormones need to activate within a set time or else the brain remains unaltered. Sometimes, either the receptors do not activate or the hormones are not generated therefore making the brain unaltered (liking men). Occasionally the brain will absorb only a limited number of hormones (making people bisexual). If the receptors activate at the right time and androgen hormones are released at the right time, we end up as straight guys... This is a simplified version but basically what happens to make people gay.... hope it helps. Essentially, im saying it definitely isn't a choice.

Its the same but in reverse, the hormones that turn the body male never activate but the androgen hormones still activate. Of course, there are various levels of it but that is basically what happens.
