It's true that a decent PC will cost a bit, but it's a lot less if you build it yourself, and it will last you longer then any console thus, saving you money in the long run. And you only really need to upgrade every 5-10 years, depending on the components you have installed already.

PS3 in 2006
A 7-8 year old mid level pc (self assimbled $400-700) would be drastically outdated.

not true the computer i am using is an 2000 emachines bought for about $600 and all i have ever upgraded is the graphics card yet i can still play any game out there on pc without any lag

New generation of GPU/CPUs usually come out once a year. You are far behind in 2 years.

And a new console comes out every 7-8 years. Even with an outdated cpu you are still miles ahead of consoles.
