Alas, I can not make you believe in God, it is something that you must undertake yourself. For there is no proof against him existing, other than nobody seeing him, and there is no proof of him not existing, other than the fact that some things in the bible have been proven, at the very least as historic events. It is called faith for a reason, you must put your doubts aside and make the leap yourself, otherwise you will never believe. Since you are already presumably Athiest, you have made your choice and what I say in one post could not change your viewpoint on it.

Okay, think of it this way, you don't have to believe in religion to believe in a God. Religion is you going along with what someone else made up. But if you have your own strong theory about something, then you can have true faith in it. Also, don't think of "God" as an all powerful all seeing human that controls everything. Think of "God" as something, someone, some alien, that created our universe or at least started the chain reaction to our universe being created.

The only controversial argument I can exploit is that I don't need to know how/why the universe is created, why the earth is round or how time works.

As long as there is a concept of god there is a god, as he is like an entanglement in the image of doing good things and sometimes even sort of a placebo in some cases.
There is no wizard in the sky though, if that's what you thought before, which is pretty easy to not believe in.

Consider this: the God as the world knows Him know, as a variation of Zeus, Odin, Yehowa is a concept archaic and somehow degrading for human mind. It creates dogmas, ideologies, churches and so on. And it has been ridiculed many times, perhaps mostly by Xenofanes, who stated that "If horses had gods, they'd look like giant horses." And, sadly, modern religions cultivate the old way of concerning the Divine.

Although, what is possible for a developed human mind to accept is a Divine in pure form. Not a Vengeful Warrior, Loving Father, or Universal Mother, but The Reason, The Primum movens , The Ultimate Form. Aristotle's point of view perhaps more scientific then modern atheists' like Dawkins. Yet - when we consider the reality as cause-effect construct, it's hard for a logical mind to continue this chain forever backwards, ad absurdum. This kind of God I'm talking about doesn't demand belief, prayers, pilgrimages or any other. Why should the True Divine need something of purely human value? It's infinitely different from us, who are here, now, we live, die, change etc.

The methaphysical sense, as I call it, can be present in one and absent in the other - but the truth is that from shamanism to most sublimed philosophy, concept of the Divine exists. If taken logically, it ceases to be so repulsive. And in fact, the positivism, starting from the so-called "Age of Enlightenment", brought equally much good and evil. Science is way, knowledge is a purpose, never the other way round.

What made me confused at 1st was this: The world orignated from nothing. But what is nothing in nothing if there was never no nothing and how can something come from nothing and how did nothing/something begin from nothing/something in the 1st place.

i am serious, although this isnt me being butthurt about religion, i just dont like the guy. hes worth roughly 12 million pounds and yet still evaded tax just because he could. Hes also one of those guys who just will not see things from other peoples perspectives. this post exemplifies his entire comedic standpoint. Instead of thinking 'hey, while i don't believe in the concept of religion i understand it gives a lot of people hope so why no let bygones be bygones? he goes for the cheap 'HURR DURR RELIGIONS FOR IDIOTS'

Almost all comedians are crude. That's what passes as funny in our society. Jimmy Carr is successful because he appeals to modern day audiences.

Justin Bieber appeals to modern day audiences and is successful for it. It doesnt stop people hating on him all over this site. Also i have no problem with crudeness, I Find comedians like Frankie Boyle hysterical, I just dont think Carr does it very well.

Looks like one of those, "there were funny comedians in the past, no one in the current time period is at all funny" kids.

I love lots of modern day comedians: reginald d hunter, louis CK, frankie boyle, howard marks if you count his live act. i just don't care for jimmy carr.

That's a cop-out. I've had tons of great discussions on here. The trick is not arguing from a single perspective, but instead trying to weigh multiple stances against each other, arriving at a thesis and addressing warrants and potential rebuttals, while still conceding limitations in logic or empirical data when applicable. That's more to do with debates than preference disparities, the latter being the case here, but I hear people use that same comment, "opinions and FJ don't mix," when talking about discourse sparked by actual issues, so I wanted to address it.

gracias amigo. I do like the style of comedy i just don't particularly care for jimmy carr but i realised that its not my place to impose my opinions on other people who may find him funny especially when their was no pretense.

Cool story, bro. I happen to think he's very entertaining in an "I'm an asshole, I say what I mean and make no apologies" kind of way. There are other comedians who do that same thing, and some of them are people you've mentioned in defence of your comedic taste - i.e. Louis C. K., Frankie Boyle (to a ridiculous extent, though I find him hilarious), and George Carlin.
