"In the UK we do not tip in restaurants"? Are you fucking joking? I am English, born and bred. Everyone DECENT tips in restaurants. Please, those of other nationalities, the statement above is not accurate of the UK at all (generally speaking, everyone tips unless they are unhappy with the food/service, it is never usually mandatory but it's just a polite social etiquette that most people adhere to).

Waiter and waitress wages are very low in the US. So tipping is their major income from the job.

The only people who do not tip adequate money in restaurants are usually niggers. Most niggers literally never tip, or just leave pennies and dimes, perhaps a quarter.

You are supposed to tip at least 15% of the bill. The waiters live off of said money, in many restaurants the tip goes into the cook's pay too.

I'm black and I tip at least 20% most of the time. All my closest friends and family are also generous tippers(also black). I've even known them to tip $10 on a $12 tab and none of us are even close to rich.

I know many well mannered and unmannerly black people. The majority I know fall into the well mannered category. I just seems to me that people are more apt to remember encounters with ghetto, loud, and ill mannered black folk than the ones with black people that are more or less average. Do you know very many black people personally?
