I'm also in the military, but i don't have a car. Which sucks, because I work across the base from where I live, which is a 45 minute walk.

Alot of our guys deal with the same shit, I always drive them if we are on the same schedule.

In most urban areas, there central commercials or residential "hubs" that are a trivial distance from everything noteworthy in a set area...if a light rail system connected most of these hubs, and then each hub had borrow-a-bike stations, that would enormously cut down on the need for cars.

Does this mean get rid of cars entirely? No, that's retarded...but equally retarded is the concept of people basically driving interdependently powered, fuel guzzling, self-contained-climate machines that require an enormous infrastructure and a huge energy source

TL;DR Cars aren't bad, but try to take advantage of public transit

Admittedly, I live in the kind of place where the nearest grocery store is a 15 minute car ride away, and there is probably all of 30 houses in a mile radius my own, but as a general rule buses are only useful if there are a bunch of people all going to the exact same place on a regular basis, and I feel like that's not too common.

Bikes are nice, but they can be a major pain in a crowded area and fuck up your clothes, so they're almost useless for most transit to work and back, their range is lacking, and they are physically exerting, something most people try to avoid.

Anywhere you can walk, you would walk.

Cars are almost always the quickest and most efficient route to anywhere that a person might take a car. If they weren't people wouldn't use them.

The closest thing to an actual solution would be to size down cars, but a) smart cars are fucking gay, b) That means either being too small for the times when you do need a regular sized car, or buying 2, which is economically preposterous.

TL;DR any non-car solution to mass transmit is either financially impossible or unappealing on a case-by-case basis, and thereby impossible to use with masses, as they are actually just groups of individuals.
