Their best soldiers and officers were fighting Germany at the time. Because of this they had to sent their worst against the Finnish so it actually wasn't that surprising when they suffered that heavy casualties.

What are you talking about? USSR didn't go to war with Germany until June 1941. What actually happened was Stalin had just done the purges, and practically every officer with any competency at all was killed, so the Red Army had horrendous leadership at the start of the war. Combine this with the fact that Finland was defending in the Winter (you don't want to be on offense during the winter, it's a bitch on logistics) and the fact that Finland was fighting for their home, Finland was bound to outperform the Soviets.

The Finnish were also very inginuitive, and created the Molotov Coctail to throw at tanks and cook the operators alive.

Finland is not a part of Scandinavia, that's a common misconception.

Also it usually counts as an Scandinavian country inpolitics etc. because of it's long history with Sweden and many Scandinavian minorities.
