The thing is if 80% of Americans voted against gay marriage it would be more important for democracys sake that it be illegal rather than the moral justification of it being legalised.

That's why normal states are "state of laws", in which laws prevent "the tyranny of the majority".
Picture this: if over 50% of the US population voted that a certain individual be condemned to death, do you think that gives them any authority over the existing laws?

Not massively law how the American system work, in Europe we have European human rights laws and stuff that are more important than countries laws

Romania, so having a communist regime that controlled everything up to 23 years ago (despite having good relations & weapons shipping with close Muslim countries) is kind of a good point.
Here, not only are the guns kept a very close eye at (although one could get a tear-gas pistol or airsoft replicas with somewhat ease), but most can't afford them, either.
