Generally airport security are pretty strict about anything to do with terrorism in a airport. They wont even let you take nail clippers on a plane. And this guard is reading a book about terrorism. If they freak out over nail clippers why is he reading a book about terrorism.

must have been quite the training
tsa trains for a month in the classroom and 1-2 months with a trainer after that
i just got certified :) its a pretty neat job even though we get a lot of shit
everything we do has a reason behind it.
but i understand the hate
i work with some people....
so i try to keep the passengers in a good mood

You kinda do both at the same time, you learn for awhile, and do ride-alongs and slowly start doing things.
