In all the rest of the fucking world "low abiding citizens" go around without carrying guns, and they're ok... even better than US citizens!

Ok, guns are completely illegal in Ireland, police don't even have guns, Ireland has 0.4 out of 100,000 people dying to guns per year, America has 22, big fucking difference.
Here's a few situations
Situation #1
Before: Man/woman owns a gun, they find out their spouse is cheating on them, they get drunk, angry, they don't know what to do, so they dig up their gun and kill their spouse/the one they were cheating with in the heat of the moment and then possibly themselves. Boom, possible 3 people because of quick access to an easy murder weapon.
After: Man/woman finds out their spouse is cheating on them, they get drunk, angry, they don't know what to do, so they mope about, maybe go out a punch the guy/girl, sober up, and sort their shit out, get a divorce, patch shit up, who knows.
Situation #2
Before: Young man, struggling for money, we don't know why, it could be any reason. He decides to rob a place, or mug a person, one of his friends lends him a gun, or maybe he find a gun in his own house to use, he goes out to mug a person, person makes a sudden move, maybe he has a gun too, maybe he doesn't. Young man panics and shoots. Now someone is dead.
After: Young man, struggling for money, we don't know why, it could be any reason. He decides to rob a place, or mug a person, none of his friends has a gun, neither does his dad (this alone might even put him off it, but let's just say he does it anyway). So he goes out to mug a person, person makes a sudden move, but he probably doesn't have a gun, young man, without a panic option, tells him to move slower, maybe hits him, maybe runs (maybe stabs him in all fairness) but here we have maybe a person dead.
TL;DR - Most arguments about gun control, are going to sounds retarded to people looking at it from the opposite point of view. Both options have their ups and downs.
Here's a few situations

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but aren't they banning guns with huge mags? So the "law-abiding citizen" would still have a gun, just not one that makes killing 50 people quite so easy

Oh wait. That's not what's been discussed at all, a ban on assault weapons and a limit on clip size. Mental health reform to aid those who are self destructive and reform on tracking weapon sales.

Even if you have a gun, if you are about to get mugged and someone points a gun straight at your head he will shoot before you can use your weapon.
