I always wondered. Unlike an actual sword or saber for that matter a lightsaber only has mass in the hilt. The rest of the "blade" should be weightless because it is in fact a laser or beam of light. However if there is no weight or mass to the "blade" how does it not just glide through everything like a real laser. For example in episode II when they are cutting through one of the blast doors it seems like obi-wan is struggling to get the blade around in a circle. Should it no easily glide through the metal? I mean if it is hot enough to slice someones arm off, also at the same time cauterizing it, and hot enough to actually melt the metal why is there resistance? Although the more i think about it the temperature of the blade might have something to do with it. However when two of the blades meet there is clearly a resistance as if two real blades actually were being pushed against each other. Would they not pass through each other without causing a resistance? I could just be an idiot after all.

If i got one, i would never actually use it, all i would use it for is threatening burglers and boasting and maybe sell it to the government for billions

I thought you had to be able to use the force to use a lightsaber.

anyone can use a light saber, but only force users can use it well enough not to dismember themselves immediately

Ruthless killer and bank robber.
Make a hole in the wall and be gone before the police get there.
Who the **** would sell it?

A knife I didn't have to clean? **** , I would be using it for everything.

You actually, technically are suppose to have the force to use a lightsaber. I know General Grevious used one but that breaks the rule. You have to use the force to guide the plasma otherwise it doesn't work correctly. Look it up.

Lightsabres vibrate so much from the force generating their blades that you can only properly wield one with a high upper boby strength level, otherwise it would throw your arm around like crazy.

In the end everyone would know you aren't a serious threat since a simple pistol could kill you :P
I could see myself cutting a part of my body off though xD
