Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, Spain (often called PIIGS) are the EU countries that are experiencing the worst of the financial crisis and dragging the rest of the EU down. I guess thats why you see portufal locked up in a cage.

It's not either good or bad: it's just true.

If Greece doesn't want the German money anymore, they are free to leave the EU any time they want. Three years later, they will be a third world country, but at least they'll find someone else to blame for their own inaptitude then.

For many many years, the Greek people have elected politicians who have ****** up their country, pushed it deep into debt, wasted money, fostered corruption. And now that Greece has reached the end of the line, it's all Germany's fault, because Germany doesn't just want to throw money into a deep black hole without any chance of every seeing it again? What about blaming the idiots who elected the corrupt politicians. It's not like it was a secret that they were corrupt. Everyone knew. But back then, I didn't see any big protests in Greece. Everyone happily watched the country go down the drain. And now it's all someone else's fault. Convenient!

Germany shouldn't be seen as the victim. Along with the money they send, they demand big deals to get portions of the money back. This has made Greeces defense budget (etc.) much bigger than necessary, but don't forget Germany getting great export numbers as well.

Also the problem wasn't the people all those years electing the wrong people. It was bad vs. worse in the elections - with exceptions.. But those exceptions we're Ron Pauls, if you know what I mean.

(You are an anon so this is to other people agreeing with you)
It may be the people's fault for electing idiots and i admire you for being able to give a legitimate reason. But it is not the only reason for our bankruptcy. If you have the time look to our history from 1400 to 2012 (worry not the first 400 years are slavery to the Ottomans) and look to the wars we have been into and the things other countries (such as the USA, England and much others) benefited from our loss or victory. Many of the wars we have made were suggested by them. But I am not the one to tell you that. You can look everything up and connect the dots. If you think you have the time for our little country. In the case you don't, you can take my word that it may be our people's fault for electing them, but it is not the whole story. :-)

evil, evil germany: well i see, you are out of money, but we are willing to rescue your country if you make economic changes within, so you'll be able to pay us back maybe half of what we leant you sometime.

There's this comic sketch by a portuguese comedian, a well-known comedian called Herman José. This sketch is from the 90's and he's portraying Adolf Hitler.
Again, THIS SKETCH WAS MADE IN THE 1990's.
It's called "What if Germany had won the war" and what Hitler says is:
"A new order for Europe - every country united in a borderless community with a common currency... but sooner or later Germany will have the power..."

You can watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUIU8EJ5tN4

Prophecy much?
#37 to #24 - anon (01/15/2013) [-]
borderles is to a bigger extend at that time and about common currency, you dont have to be a prophet in the 90s to see it comming. that germany will have some power in that system is also quite obvious as its of the strongest economies in the whole world.

Now it may sound shocking, but i dont think you need to be huge prophet for such a sketch. But oh well, conspiracy works always
User avatar #39 to #37 - galacticboner (01/15/2013) [-]
I don't REALLY think it's a prophecy. This was in 1994-1995, Germany was reunited, Portugal had been in the EU for 10 years... I guess it was predictable, already.

What about Ireland and Iceland? You sure know a lot of how this crisis works.
Do you know why (at least Spain, not sure about the other countries) are we ****** up? Because of a house bubble that burst and banks junk bonds. That's why.

Germany's always had a strong economy. Plus, german leaders have done the reforms the economy needed when things were going ok. That's why they are the ones who has more money in the EU and that's why they are ruling over it.

For your information, the minimum salary in France is 1425.67€ and they work 7 hours a day. In Spain, the salary is the half (748.30€) and we work 8 hours a day. France isn't as ****** as we are even when we work more hours and get paid MUCH less. So, how can you say we are ****** up just because our "siestas"?

tl;dr: get your **** together before talking.
Gif related: MFW people think Spanish people are lazy and just go to a party after another.

I'm not saying you guys aren't ****** up too but the living cost here is about 25 points. France is 29 with twice our salary and your prices are about 19 points with just 200 euros less than us a month.
