Well technically Hera sent Madness to him. Poor ol' Herc had no idea what happened.

Well, in that actual little mermaid story, Ariel get's rejected and melts into sea foam...

Disney likes to take adult stories and tone them way the **** down. not a bad thing though.

It's Disney. When Cinderella lost her shoe and the prince was looking for her the girls in the town started cutting their feet so it would fit.

On the plus side he wrestles death into submission so that his friend can get his wife back...If I recall correctly.

Shhh, let the children be ignorant to the true story...

In all seriousness, though, Disney dumbs down everything they base a story on. A lot of their movies are based on works that are horryfying.

*Fit of insanity brought on as punishment from Hera for being born.

He then remarried twice, one to a woman who was tricked into poisioning him with Centaur blood the other was when he became a god and was given Hebe, the goddess of youth as a trophy wife.

i think in mythology, Hera cast some witchcrafty spell which sends him mad, so he kills his wife and his child. She does this because she finds out that Zeus had an affair with a mortal and created him, so she wants vengeance. hercules persecutes himself as he feels extremely guilty for killing them, so therefore undertakes the trails as a kind of retribution.

please correct me if I'm wrong :)

have a nice day.

No that sounds right. Never did figure out why Hera didn't just punish Zeus rather than punishing those he sired (Herakles) or had affairs with (Io, poor Io)

The girl (later his wife) got drunk at a party and invited Hercules to sleep with her, the next day she regrets what she did and said he raped her..hmm..

Yep, and at the end of the original Little Mermaid story, she dies because the prince marries someone else.

Not to mention Pocahontas, a story that's (supposed to be) based on a true story, where the true story is more Pocahontas was 12 years old and the captain was an old man, and was more of a rapish kidnapping than a tale of two lovers from different lands.

She doesnt die per say. She turns into seafoam and some **** , because mermaids dont have souls. Thats probably why she has red hair

In his defense, they were actively trying to kill him. Also, he felt really super bad about it afterwards.

User avatar #13 to #9 - spycheckingpyro (01/14/2013) [-]
no. just regular fit of rage.
if we really want to go into details about how off the actual mythology to the disney movie. we could be here all day
User avatar #49 to #13 - hirollin (01/14/2013) [-]
i'v never seen the disney movie. i remember reading that hera was the cause yet Hercules blamed himself.
User avatar #51 to #49 - spycheckingpyro (01/14/2013) [-]
i did some fact checking, and i admit you were right. in most stories it is told that Hera drove him to insanity. but a handful also state he was just being a brute. i wasn't there. i don't know. his wife could have just had a really annoying laugh and he snapped after a long day's work. we'll never know.
