But American attempts at British accents are without exception really over the top bad... I would know, I'm British..
Besides which there is no single "British accent", for the size of our country, we have a ridiculous amount of accents. Just off the top of my head I can think of:

Brummy
Mackem
Scottish
Northern
Geordie
Yorkshire
Received Pronunciation (upper class/posh)
Norfolk
