Ok sure, Cutler is a quarterback with excellent physical talent. He has possibly the strongest arm in the NFL, has very good accuracy and despite questions of his character has time and time again been able to lead his team to wins without a very good offensive line which is a very difficult thing to cope with (see Philip Rivers). Schaub on the other side has always come across to me as a second rate Alex Smith, someone who with the right pieces can succeed but if anything begins to go wrong can't take over a game.
I think Schaub has not been up to par these last few days. But he fits the type of offense that Houston has, a run first, play action team. Which it is very hard to compare these two QB's because they do have a different play-style. Schaub can be one of the most accurate passers in the game when he doesnt over think things and just let's it go. He isn't much of the runner like Cutler is. And he did just lead the Texans to a franchise high record this year.
That is a very good point, he has won games. But he has also usually had an outstanding team around him, he has arian foster, ander johnson, a solid line and a top ranked defense. Cutler on the other hand just got Brandon Marshall this season and his no 2 receiver (by receptions) has been his running back the great albeit injury prone matt forte. I think when you also look at Cutler, before the Bears defense slowed down and lost Urlacher, and had injury problems with Tillman the Bears were 7-1.
Then they went 7-2 i believe when Houston came to town with a banged up defense as well. We didn't have Cushing and lost Brooks Reed during the game. If you take a look at last season, we lost Johnson to i believe it was two calf injuries during the year and we really had no one else, so we needed shaub to step up and fill in the spot. He's capable of leading a team through 4 quarters, which is where i think Cutler doesnt manage so well. He hasn't been hot until the 4th. And as we all know, you cant show up on offense in the 4th to win games. it just doesnt happen
I think elite is a word that gets thrown around with no meaning. I don;t think it describes players to well to be honest, because Romo did pass Aikmans record for touchdowns in a career. He's always going to be the "yeah but" guy. I think a team will pick tebow up. Not everyone can come in and do what he did with the Broncos last year. i think he will end up somewhere as a starter, hell maybe even KC.
KC would seem like a prime location for him to go and yea the word eliote is used to often. I personally only consider 3 QBs elite, Manning, Brady and Brees (Rodgers gets shaky at times) but I do think that if Tony Romo could fix his mental game he could be a top 5-7 QB in the league.
Those are 3 special QB's but their time is coming to an end. I honestly think Brady will retire within the next 3 years and same with Manning. Brees has maybe 5 more years left in him. But that's just me. I think If Reid and the GM down at KC were smart they would look into Tebow. Reid has had talent just like Tebow with Vick and knows how to refine those skills.
