And the Romans didn't displace the people they conquered, which means they are not the genetic descendants of most Europeans. Silly arguments about Africa aside, this is the most incredibly wrong thing you've said. Firstly you've pulled this idea out of your ass because of some lines the Romans drew in the dirt. That doesn't mean the people living within all those regions were Roman/Etruscan/Italian/Whatever. And even if those areas were all displaced of their native populations by Romans, you're still leaving out nearly 2,000 years of migratory patterns and nation shifting. The only modern countries with any sort of meaningful genetic lineage leading back to the Romans would be Italy, Spain (kind of), France (sort of), and Romania. Rome was a geopolitical alliance of different nations. They didn't just start heading out from Italy and displacing everyone.

Germanic, Slavic, and Celtic populations (to name a few) have nothing to do with Roman genetic lineage unless you go back thousands of years before the Romans to Indo-European civilization, which is basically the theoretical start point that Germanic, Celtic, Slavic and Romance languages stem from. I thought I'd just say this, but the only thing that keeps whites and blacks and asians and everyone else from being a different species is the ability to mate with each other. Not saying you're entirely wrong, but most indications are that ancient Egyptians were of descent closer to Arabic peoples than to central Africans. Arabic/Mesopotamian civilizations certainly completed engineering feats that rivaled those in Egypt, so I would think that that supports the theory on the origins of the Egyptians (also the fact that many of their rulers are portrayed as having lighter, Arabic skin).

I don't think it's wired to feel proud of your country's achievements or culture. It brings us together and lets us know that no matter how small or big your country is, there's always that little thing that makes it feel like home, and I'm proud of that.

Whatever it is that makes you proud, architecture, films, music, traditions, fairytales, history, literature, art or anything you find special, I think it's a good thing. There is no logic in patriotism/nationalism, and it's not supposed to be. There's only supposed to be feelings and joy. If one does not think it's important to have something that you can share with fellow citizens then that can stand for them, but I for one like my country and am proud of it's achievements, just like I am proud of my family's achievements, but I don't take any credit for it.
