Gorillas actual have an acceptance and understanding of death
When Koko the gorilla's kitty, All Ball, was hit and killed on a logging road, Koko's handlers went in and told Koko about her kitty. She pretended she didn't hear them at first, acting like there was nobody there. When they repeated it to her, she signed the words cry, frown, tear, sad. That night Koko was heard crying a loud mournful cry. She was heard crying like that for weeks. When asked about what did she think about death, she said forever, sleep, hole in ground, and things like that. When Koko's gorilla friend Micheal died Koko was equally distraught. She would frantically search for her friend. She also asked to have a light left on at night and didn't enjoy the dark. She also asked for caregivers to stay with her and would cry with them. She kept asking to have him back, and was even seen attempting to learn CPR which she saw used on Mike. When they explained months later again that mike wasn't coming back she signed, sad no, and went to mikes room to cry and play with his things. The most beautiful thing was Penny, another gorilla, signed called koko "angel" and went on to say "angel in this room" which was mikes room they were in. Koko signed "imagine". Penny attempted to console Koko about death. She still keeps Mike's blankets and smells them, spending a lot of time in his room. When Koko's birthday was celebrated she didn't dance or cheer or have the same appetite as before. Koko's never been the same since All Ball's and Michael's death

I wanna hear the story about how that cat got its name... "all ball"? Like... If I was a cat that hungout with a gorilla, i'd have to be all balls too...

When Koko was picking out kittens there was one without a tail curled up. Koko thought it was a ball of fur at first. When she saw it was a kitty she smiled and picked it, naming it All Ball

How does a gorilla understand the concept of burying someone when they died? It confuses me that Koko signed 'hole in the ground'.. That's a human ritual, not something that is implented with animals

Actually, other animals, such as elephants, have been known to consecrate the bodies of dead herd or family members.
