I can expand further from talking with my friend. If you sin and don't repent, your ghost is stuck on earth, and if your ghost sins (somehow, it was really complicated) you are stuck longer, but then you go to heaven. I'm not sure how it works for non-Jews, maybe you're stuck here forever, maybe you just cease, I don't know.
