"When they want you to be like somebody else and you just want to be yourself, and you do it and get the feeling that it's wrong. It is when the press articles happen and the cameras get to snappin and they try to make you out as a lie, and it's ironic because you were just tryin to please em by using logic reason." -Drake

"And I swear to everything when I leave this Earth, it's gon be on both feet, never knees in the dirt. You can try me f_____ but when I squeeze it hurts, then we lose two lives, yours and mine. Give me any amount of time, don't let Mrs. Carter grieve at the funeral parlor drippin tears down her sleeve." -Lil Wayne

"It's going down in the basement, Friday the 13th, guess who's playing Jason. Tuck yourself in and hang on to your teddy, it's Nightmare on Elm Street and guess who's playing Freddy." -Nicki Minaj

Don't hate unless you have the facts, just because their poetry doesn't fit your style doesn't downplay it at all.

Admittedly Nicki Minaj is terrible, not even going to try to defend her too much. Though pre 2007 Lil Wayne was a great lyricist but then some guy named Tunechi took over and ... ya. But Drake does have great talent as a lyricist and will forever be remembered as one. Plus i dont really think many people care about lyrics, Gangnam style has over a billion views and no one has any idea what hes saying. If you really think the rap game has no good lyricists, listen to a few macklemore songs, i gaurantee it will change your mind.

There are plenty of artists who have a few good lyrics.
However, the ones who whore themselves out to make money don't deserve any respect.
Just because a pedophile helped an old lady across the street doesn't make up for the fact that he ****** little boys butts.....
Nicki Minaj wrote a song about how she ******* on people...
I am not comparing her to a pedophile but someone who thinks that is worth showing to the world doesn't deserve to be called an artist.
Not to mention putting one meaningful lyric in a sea of repetitious garbage doesn't make a good song.
Try putting in some of those millions and some effort and write a whole song thats good..

yeah but they also have these lyrics..

"You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe (you stupid, stupid)
You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe (you stupid, stupid)
You a stupid hoe, (yeah) you a, you a stupid hoe (you stupid, stupid)" -Nicki Minaj

"I’m here for you ******
I guess a hit doesn’t add up to a career for you ******
I must have been hard to watch,
what a year for you ******" -Drake

"Yeah, long as my bitches love me (yeah, yeah)
I can give a **** 'bout no hater
Long as my bitches love me
I can give a **** 'bout no ******
Long as these bitches love me." -Lil Wayne

But why should all their lyrics be meaningful? Music isn't supposed to be a poetry book, if it sounds good, it sounds good.

as thenukecity said it doesn't sound good.. not all music has to be meaningful or have some sort of emotion attached to it but it also doesn't have to include words to make them look 'gangsta'.. plenty of other artists and bands have random songs about random **** but don't try and act hard in their music by blurting out bitches n ****, 'yellow submarine' by the beatles..
just saying i think it sounds ******* stupid when people have songs like these guys do..

Not everyone can pull off not giving a ****. Certain artists can, and few artists can find the medium. What makes rappers like Lil Wanye and Nicki stand out is they can't find the medium, but rappers like ASAP Rocky, Kanye, and Jay Z can.

Yes, but just because an artist has dumb as **** lyrics on some songs doesn't mean they should be judged by them.

there is a difference between bad lyrics, for example teeny pop songs from justin bieber, one direction etc. have quite bad lyrics
'Baby, baby, baby oooh
Like baby, baby, baby nooo
Like baby, baby, baby oooh
I thought you'd always be mine (mine)'

but those guys are just ignorant, narcissistic and love to use words like 'bitch' 'hoe' '****** etc.. i think that if you write lyrics like that you should definitely be judged by it. They chose to sing it so why should we think 'oh well only 60% of their songs are about ****** and hoes but I won't judge on that'

I agree totally with the last part, but I don't think he should be judged based on his first ****** lil' kid songs.

You have a good point, but the Nicki Minaj one sounds like more generic lyrics to me.
