Can someone explain (save for the right to bear arms) how america has more freedom than any other country?

At the time of the American Revolution, parliament had already become fairly powerful within the British government, and the King was subject to rule of law. People had basic rights. Granted, you couldn't vote if you didn't own land, but the same was true of the U.S.
The kings and queens had total control of the government. If they wanted to ban a religion, kick out a religious group/ethnic minority or create new laws, you better believe they could do it.
I personally think that the US system is a LOT better, primarily because all the power isn't focused on one person.
