As much as people give America shit, it could be A LOT worse.
I'm damn thankful i was born in a modernized country, and not some 3rd world country wondering if ill live to see tomorrow. We should all be thankful

We are the first country of the modern era with a form of democracy, we are the first country with a representative democracy, and we are currently the longest running democracy.

Yes they came up with the idea of the republic we came up with the idea of a republican democracy by combining Athenian Democracy, Spartan checks and balances, and Roman style representation so....

Not saying you were wrong, I love America as much as is required by the state as the next guy. Just throwing the thought out there.
User avatar #286 to #284 - newsmyrna (01/08/2013) [-]
I don't even live in America anymore so I don't really care how much you love it.

and what about the UK? pretty sure that has had democracy for longer than USA
#293 to #262 - aludin (01/08/2013) [-]
If the UK had democracy before us then why did we have to fight for freedom?
#314 to #293 - sagedivinity ONLINE (01/08/2013) [-]
Why did African Americans have to fight for there freedom. The colonists weren't enslaved they were being treated worse than the rich and being taxed hard among other things so they fought back to have the same standard of living as everyone else, not to gain freedom exactly.
User avatar #264 to #262 - newsmyrna (01/08/2013) [-]
Nope look it up first was the US second was France. The two longest as it stands now is US 1789 and Norway 1814.

which country was the first to institute a representative democracy?
User avatar #258 to #253 - leprecono ONLINE (01/08/2013) [-]
the orignal ideal for democracy was in Ancient Greece if i'm not mistaken
User avatar #261 to #258 - srskate ONLINE (01/08/2013) [-]
that was not a representative democracy, though. It was a direct democracy.
User avatar #251 to #243 - spritedrake (01/08/2013) [-]
Does it fucking matter?
User avatar #257 to #251 - leprecono ONLINE (01/08/2013) [-]
no, but i get sick of the way that some people from the USA think that they're country is the only country that has democracy/freedom when it clearly isnt
