In Japanese, 4 is pronounced "shi", which is also the pronunciation of the word "death", and I've heard it's similar in China. It's considered bad luck to have "death" floors in China. And of course there's 13 which you should know about.

In some cultures, like places in Tibet and I think Japan, 4 is their bad luck number like in America it's "13". So in those asian countries, any number with a "4" in it is badluck, those no 4, 14, 24, and "13" has become a universal symbol of bad luck too.. so there's no "13" either.

The more you grow.

I've gathered a large team of architects to discuss and design a building which would look like the one described in the picture. This is what we came up with.

"Oh hey, where's 4?" (Processing)
"Oh well, look at the rest instead. 11. 12. 15. **** . **** . I hate you."

this is quite common in China, as the pronunciation for the number '4' is very close to the word 'DEATH' in Chinese, believing it being a 'bad lcuk' number hence many hotels and apartments skip any number that's associated with '4' and use the next number instead. '13' is not used also due to the fact its believed to be a 'bad luck' number as well in western countries.

4 is an unlucky number for the Chinese and Japanese, I think. So they skip any floor with a 4 in the number, plus 13.

The number 4 and 13 means death and bad luck in the chinese culture, if I'm not totally wrong.

I know nothing about china, but in japanese an alternate way to say 4 is "Shi" which means death. Hospitals avoid the floor for that reason. Same does not apply to 13 and 14 however so I have no clue.
