This isnt a good thing to discuss because, you see, I'm a smoker myself and I can't think of anything to explain why I'm smoking. That means I instantly lose the argument. And every smoker who is saying something else is a liar. It's dumb to smoke but we still do it. Don't know why.

>Implying you have to give an argument on why you smoke.

You smoke, and that's that.
You don't damage others.. (If you smoke alone, that is.)

I quit last week, but I actually had a reason that sounded pretty good to me.
Currently school is taking all my time. I don't even have time get a job, play my instruments or hang out with friends. After a while of doing nothing else than school related things for weeks on end, I started getting pretty stressed. Having a smoke was really relaxing and it helped reduce my stress level. Now I'm back to being stressed as ****.
I don't have time to work, and therefore I'm broke pretty much all the time. Actually the only reason I have any money at all is my scholarship. So I had to quit because of financial reasons

Why does anyone take any kind of drugs? It may be a very weak one, but its the same deal. Dont believe me? Try going without a cig for a week, and after a long days work when youre exhausted, try smoking one.
Add the social element - good icebreaker, people ask you for cigs, and so on, and you have a reason why some people smoke.

You being ignorant doesnt make everyone else a liar.

It is indeed a dumb thing, and the reason why you smoke might be because you like it (A little of my case) and mainly because I and WE are/am addicted.

Because it's addicting, and feels kinda nice. And it's a great social tool. Plenty of semi-decent reasons to smoke, even though I don't, simply because of how much it costs when you become a regular smoker.

It's stoner mythology. Whever you go, somehow, somewhere a lighter of a specific color is 'unlucky'. No color is sacred, not even the potheads beloved green.

its not a myth. there is logic behind it. idk if its enough to call it "unlucky" or something but stoners use lighters to pack bongs, pipes and even js. so if you use a white lighter, the residue will be visible on it and if a cop pulls you over and sees a lighter with residue on it, he will check you thoroughly and could find your stash.

Wrong, smoking is highly addictive. As many smokers, they will tell you too never start smoking. We do not view it as cool, nor sexy... we do enjoy it... because it is the same as eating or drinking. But most (like 99% of us) would quit if we weren't so addicted... also in advanced do give me that will power ********. Lets see how you do on the quit smoking equivlancy test.

let me put this in perspective. The pain of quitting smoking feels like this. First hit the gym the day before you do this till you can gaurentee you will have sever muscle cramps and will have problems moving. Switch all the lightbulbs in your house to a very high intensity that will give you a horrible eye strain. Next invite over all the most annoying people you know for a party tomorrow at your place. Finally go to bed.

When you wake up the next morning down x2 pots or coffee. (if your a coffee drinker make it 5) till you feel nauseous and sick. You are not allowed to take anything to deal with it. Next, bang your head into a wall for about 15 minutes so you get a low grade migraine. Next turn on the songs you hate the most, or over the top screechy sounds till your headache becomes worse.

When your party guest show up, talk to them for about 15 minutes each. You are not allowed to explode on them, complain about how ****** you currently feel, or cancel the party. In the middle of literally the most annoying conversation you have this day hold your breath for at least a minute, so you feel dizzy, nautious, sick, annoyed, burning lungs with the headache from hell.

Quitting smoking is worse then this.

It goes on for three days.

and the worst part is, unlike your prediciment, mine can be solved by a puff of a smoke. So yes quitting smoking is hard, and many of us just do it because it is this hard to quit. Keep that in mind next time you rail on a smoker.

I quit smoking after 30 a day for six years and it was nothing like that... Maybe it is for people who've smoked for longer, but dude, quitting is not that bad. You just have to find the right time. You won't be able to quit unless you want to.

I agree. I smoked for 5 years (i know it's not that long), but i quit from one day to the next.

I had no such symptoms as described, i just felt like something was missing for a while, but no big deal.

I've heard that the difficulty is different for different people. I have met a few who have quite after a pack a day for 10 years without any trouble what-so-ever...But this tends to be the exception not the rule. I would trade places with you on that in a heart beat.

It think the statistics are something like 30, 30, 40. (no problem when they quit, small issues quitting, next to impossible.) The low 30 tends to quit whenever, and their the examples where people seem to say - 'willpower issues' to the rest of us. There's alot of hard neuroscience that explains this. (ie, adiction pathways for people who are habitual) and how some people will never develop that pathway override. In short, basically when you meet a smoker who says it's hard as **** to quit, understand that the above example is likely his experience rather then the lucky bastard who can drop the packs no problem. No two quitting experiences are alike, but most are harder then non-smokers are lead to believe by the lucky 30.

I understand the logic, but it's not quite true my friend. The experience varies for everyone, but generally, the more you smoke a day, the harder it is to quit. But, like you say, it's different for everyone. Have a duckie.

I don't care if someone smokes, it's their choice and you can't take choice away from someone and still be in the right.
