lion is for gryffindor
eagle for ravenclaw
badger for hufflepuff....whatever the **** that means

only the snake is slytherin because apparently snakes "slyther"

>harry potter logic
#29 to #1 - raggedy (01/04/2013) [-]
Slytherin's symbol is a snake because Salazar Slytherin was a parstletongue (He could talk to snakes) and that's what he was known for.

I'm not sure about the other three since it was never stated in the books or the movies, but I'm assuming Gryffindor's is a lion for bravery, Hufflepuff's is a badger for hardworkers, loyalty and being "great finders", and Ravenclaw is an Eagle because in many mythologies eagles represent knowledge and enlightenment. These are all just speculation, but I know the Slytherin one for sure. The houses aren't named after their mascots, they're named after the four founders that created Hogwarts school.

tldr; I'm a potter fag and have too much time on my hands, and the houses aren't named after animals, they're named for the founders.

Gryffin's are part lion so why the **** not
#20 to #1 - anonymous (01/04/2013) [-]
a griffin is half lion half eagle. with the two houses used for majesty ( lion) and bravery( eagle) they are split. to give it a kind of split personality disorder and the raven used to cover up that by making them seem like scavengers. i have not read the books but am pretty good at symbols/ if someone knows more about harry potter i would like them to continue my work. ( and bad grammar because **** you)

#11 to #7 - Bomiheko (01/04/2013) [-]
Isn't that a hippogriff?
User avatar #18 to #11 - jesusnipple (01/04/2013) [-]
"A Hippogriff is a legendary creature, supposedly the offspring of a griffin and a mare."
It's the messed up lovechild of a griffin, so I guess you'd be half right.
User avatar #14 to #11 - Lijiah (01/04/2013) [-]
A hippogriff is a horse with eagle head and wings.
A griffon in a lion with eagle head wings, and may or may not have eagle claws in place of the front paws of a lion.
#16 to #14 - Bomiheko (01/04/2013) [-]
Ah, my mistake then.
User avatar #17 to #16 - Lijiah (01/04/2013) [-]
