The mythological aspects aside, don't you think they just did it to surprise people? Magicarp is so weak that even the pokedex calls it pathetic. Imagine how many people shat a brick when they found out the weakest pokemon in the game evolves into one of the strongest.

Aww, too long since I've been on last, why can't I post pictures :(
Alright, everyone seems to be bashing on the American version, so, here's my opinion. Although the Swedish version seemed to be a little more explicit, both were equally creepy and great due to Fincher's use of lurid music and cinematography to set the tone. Noomi Rapace portrayed the punk thing a little better than Rooney Mara, but Mara managed to make her a little more 'innocent' imo.
