As an established /k/ommando tripfag I feel I have the authority to comment on this.

Firstly.
Yes, this look like a real live grenade.
It's an American MkII "pineapple" grenade.
It was probably dropped by some yank in WWII and found by the OP 70 years later.

Secondly.
Yes, this is ******* dangerous.
It looks like the striker spring has rusted away, so pulling the pin and releasing the lever won't do anything. But the actual explosives inside grenades and shells like this tend to survive remarkable well, and are probably still fully functioning. If he was to hit the detonating cap hard enough it would sett off the grenade.

Thirdly.
Yes, it this exploded the OP would be ******.
These MKII grenades are far more dangerous than modern grenades.
Their fragmentation pattern is unpredictable , but it can easily kill you from 100feet.
and it it exploded in a house the shockwave alone would be enough to kill you.

Pfft, we tested various hand grenades when I was in the Army. The Mk2 was one of them. While it CAN kill you from 100 feet due to the shrapnel, it depends on what you wear and where it hits. If you wear a thick jacket and it hits you around the rib region you wouldn't die, just fall down and stay there until you get help.

And given there's a wall between you and the pineapple the shockwave wouldn't hammer you that well. It carries on as the effect bounces back and forth between the walls, but it rather goes down the sides rather than climb around objects.

Given that OP was within 20 yards of that grenade almost the entire time doesn't make it less dangerous, though. That grenade was decommisioned because it was too dangerous for service and soldiers often found themselves causing more harm than good.

Nah, that was a different thread if I recall correctly. Similar situation though. I could be wrong though. The last picture I saw relating to the thread was when a bathroom or some **** like that was blown to ****.
