Bill Nye doesn't like creationism, but from what I've seen he cares little about religion itself.

It is the opposite way. Each time there's more people able to write and read.

While literacy doesn't inherently make you not an idiot, I applaud your ability to form an opinion based on historical facts.

I could say something deeper if I were talking in my maternal language. I can't express myself the way I would like in English. But the number of university degrees has increased severely, especially since the half of the past century. BTW, I'm studding History at college.

I think the problem is democracy and free speech. Well at least when it comes to idiot, also that they are able to write it down nowadays compared to before. Earlier in history only educated and people of higher class could read or say their opinion. Now most people in western based societies can. There's not more idiots, they're just heard or seen more often now than before.

I think your on the right track. But people also tend to try to hide the bad parts. For example:

My dad is a mechanical engineer who makes over $100,000 a year, he reads and hikes, and is a skilled carpenter and competent general handyman. He is intelligent, responsible, perceptive and a pretty cool dude. He is my role model.

What he's never told me, (I found out from his sisters) is that he was a bit of a flunky in middle school, went to a tech school for high school and was a carpenter for around 4 years before he decided to try college. During this time he managed to get so high that he crashed his car into a pole in a parking lot, and so drunk that he got stuck in a parking lot with 4 flat tires, and was too shitfaced to have the good sense to call a mechanic friend instead of his dad. There are certainly more stories, but his family has the decency to be reluctant to tell me them.

Things like this apply to the more direct histories I think, when people always say "People weren't so dumb in the 50's and 60's", no they just don't tell you how dumb they were.

I agree with you. But I can imagine this repeating itself another time and in about 20 years someone will be having this conversation we're having now. Only difference is that we now have the Internet and more people get to hear and see the stupid shit that people say or do.
