This was all I could think about when seeing the Goblin King in The Hobbit. He identified swords that had been hidden away for hundreds of years and is the ultimate geek of Middle Earth.

Anyone else slightly annoyed that Glamdring and Orcrist didn't glow the way Sting did? Because they were supposed to.

Also, Sting's glow seems to be more...electric? In the LotR trilogy its glow fades on and off, but when it turns off in the cave where Bilbo sees Gollum for the first time, it flickers out.

I think they did that so that Sting seems much more unique.

What interested me was that the glow on Sting seemed to come from its spiraled engravings, and not the blade itself. Neither of the legendary swords had such engravings.

Apparently it was to avoid confusion, because everyone is stupid.

Also, sting has no engravings in the Hobbit. It receives them after the Hobbit and before lotr.

favorite moment of the movie...

Goblin King, "What now wizard?! How will you escape me and my army? What can you do?!"
Gandalf, *smacks him in his bitch face and guts him with one sweep of his sword*
GK, "... Well... that'll do it..."

To be honest I thought that part was a bit weak. I was expecting another epic duel or something.

Has anyone got a picture of his little slave thing? The tiny crippled looking goblin on the swing who sends a message?

The sword is much like the boogeyman and stuff like that. It's infamy is something that the goblins tell stories of

Orcrist and Glamdring were used to kill hundreds of goblins in their time, so they were legendary and feared among the goblins, and they all knew about them.
