samwise is the greatest badass in the entire middle earth

who the **** else can and would fight through an entire tower filled with goblins and orks to save his friend? right after he saved said friend from a GIANT SPIDER!!!

it's not like he needed to. he had the ring so he could probably have finished the quest himself (plus i truly think that sam wouldn't have gotten tempted in the end like frodo was)

Agreed. I think Sam was more resilient to the ring's power than Frodo, and would have been a better ring bearer.

J.K Rowling herself admitted to taking dementors from J.R.R Tolkein's Nazgul, but I think she took much more than that!

Actually, that's not true.
"J. K. Rowling has revealed that the inspiration for Dementors came from her bout with severe depression before her phenomenal success. She described the feeling as an "absence of being able to envisage that you will ever be cheerful again. The absence of hope. That very deadened feeling, which is so very different from feeling sad." - Harry Potter Wiki
But they're often compared to the Nazgûl, due to their appearance.

Dumbledore was the name of a type of insect in a hobbit poem. Idk if she took that from Tolkien or if that was coincidence, but still pretty neat.

Ron was a pretty whiny bitch too. I mean, ****, they all were. They were going through puberty. Who isn't a whiny bitch when they're going through puberty. Meanwhile, in LOTR, everyone's a tiny adult. Frodo was just spoiled by Bilbo, and Sam was hesitant becuase he was a Hobbit, and that's kind of the definition of Hobbits. They don't like excitement or adventure.

They are all a bit whiny, because they are all young. They are not as worldy as the older characters, and are taking on much bigger things than they ever have before. They are all growing and learning, and the fact that they mature and find courage throughout their journies is why we connect to them most, b/c they are most like we are. Perhaps it is b/c they remind us of ourselves that we always jump to calling them whiny cowards. Hell, even Gandalf and Dumbledore were once confused, scared adolescents. One is not born badass. Badassery is thrust upon them. It is up to them to accept it or remain the follower of others that they have always been.

Very well put, except for one thing. Gandalf was never an adolescent. He arrived in Middle Earth in just about the same form as he appears when we see him.

In other words, he isn't human, and therefore isn't dictated by our biological development.

Eh, can't really blame either of them for it. Both were young, both had the fate of the world thrust on their shoulders and were given no choice in the matter, and both constantly had some form of evil hovering over them at all time (the Ring's influence for Frodo, and the mental connection with Voldemort for Harry).

<---Ironically, this guy here was responsible for destroying the ring, since he jumped on Frodo and fell into the Crack of Doom after biting his finger off. Without him, Frodo would have walked out of there like Isildur did.

One was written by an already well established author, who was writing for a much older audience.

The other was written by an (at the time) unknown author who wanted to bring joy to children's lives.

They're both good books, and you're entitled to a preference, but they really aren't in the same category. It's unfair to compare one to the other.

Now if you were comparing Harry Potter to the Hobbit on the other hand, that'd be a much more apt comparison.

Well, the slight difference is that the story of Harry Potter gets a little sidetracked by the huge amount of hormones bursting into Harrys brain, and the story of Lord of the Rings gets a little sidetracked by describing the landscape for several pages
