I showed in one of my comments below (I replied anon) that that logic is faulty or else no logic would be able to exist, HOWEVER. The argument your friend made, when tweaked, is a theistic argument (an argument for God). The argument goes that if a greatest conceivable being (someone who is maximally great in every positive possible way, ie God. This being must be all powerful, all-knowing, all-good, all-merciful, all-just, and so on or else he would not be God) exists in one of the infinite number of universes, then he must exist in ALL the universes because it is greater to exist than to not exist, and is greater to necessarily exist than to contingently exist. That is, if it is possible for a greatest conceivable being to exist on any plane than he must exist on every plane because he is the greatest conceivable being. In terms of God, if he is possible, he is.

Really the only requirement for a being to be god is to be all-powerful. If you look at morality, right and wrong are either subjective or are defined by a religion as a set of laws given by god. If you say that god must be all-good and all-just, it either means that their is a being above god, in which case making god not god, or it is redundant because it would be god himself who defines what it means to be all-good or all-just.

Actually there is an argument around this. God, in his very essence, is good. God cannot violate his own nature, otherwise God would not be God. Therefore, God must answer to his own nature and goodness flows from him. God is good (within himself) so God must only be good because it is his nature. Furthermore, there is a distinction in what omnipotence actually means. Omnipotence does not mean "having the power to do anything" as most misconceive it to be. The true definition of omnipotence is "the power to do anything logically possible that one would wish to do." There is a reason for every term in that definition, but I'll only go into that if you request it.

I know you are asking "Why is this necessary? Why not just say an all-powerful God can do whatever he wants?" Well its because of this: If God dictates what good, there is no such thing as good but everything is relative. For example, God could say torture is now permissible and it would be. But isn't torture intuitively wrong? If God can change what is right and wrong, there is no right and wrong. If there is no right and wrong, there is no reason for him to expect what he does from us and also there is no way to judge God and see if he is the true God among all the pagan gods. My above argument is necessary, then, stating that God, being goodness in his essence, must answer to his own God nature no matter how powerful he is.

It sounds like your argument is built on the idea of absolute morality. For example, torture being wrong just because it is. You're saying that god couldn't change that because it would be against this absolute morality. You're saying that god is limited by his nature thus making his nature above god. But if god doesn't even have the authority to decide what is right and wrong, how could he even be considered god?
Therefore, morality from god's point of view must be relative. God must have the authority to decided if torture is right or wrong.

In order for something to be judged, there must be a greater authority by which to do the judging. If god can be judged, that would mean there would be something greater than god, which would mean god wouldn't really be god.
Also, the definer of the authority can not be judged by himself because he would have the authority to change the rules.

I am saying that God is good by nature and can't violate that nature. This is not an authority above him, but he is his own authority. He can't, however, bend the rules because he is God and he is good. Morality is not something outside of God, morality is God. Morality can't be relative to him because he is morality. He decides what is right and wrong, then, based upon himself. God is an authority within himself.

On the the same token their may be a form of life out there that evolved to become all powerful enough to be called "god". I mean shit. For one thing our universe might just be a tiny piece of reality. Hell. Maybe we are in the "space between spaces" maybe we are the hidden dimension. Maybe the real universe is a lot bigger and more fantastic and we are stuck in this small black space.

I wish I could live forever so I could see all of our realities secrets revealed.

That is only reason i would wish for immortality, not for power or wealth but to see all the world has to offer and then to see how and why it changes. We can not conceive the greatness of our universe because we are but a blink in its life so we turn to religion to explain that which we cannot see in our limited existence in this world.
