Its his favourite part because he grew up in what would have been a family that constantly filled his mind with christian values aswell as their fucked up christian views. Its amazing that he became an atheist after being raised by such twisted people. It shows that he has an open mind and is able to overcome the odds. Atheism doesnt make you better necessarily but in this situation it speaks for his character.

There's some sort of emotional attachment to someone who can not believe in what another believes and still respect others for their beliefs. Even if you do not know them.

Well it was probably just put there to show just how stark the contrast between him and his family is. They believe in what they say so intensely, that everyone knows and hates them.. while he pretty much acknowledges none of that, and the existence of god at all.

Agreed. Although as a Christian myself I don't believe in hating others, but I do believe, naturally, that the WBC is wrong in almost every sense of their existence. Regardless of religion, they have made themselves the enemy.
