This is Nathan Phelps. He is the sister to Shirley Phelps, and the son to Fred Phelps. In case you don't know who those two are, they are the main heads of the Westboro Baptist Church. For the sake of this picture, i'm going to assume you all know what the Westboro Baptist Church is. Ever since his 18th birthday party, Nathan has been estranged from his family. He revealed that his father used to beat him relentlessly throughout his childhood, and he has smeared the WBC countless times. He is a Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender activist, a public speaker on child abuse, and my favourite part of this whole story - he is an atheist. This man is my hero, and he makes me hate Shirley and Fred Phelps just that little bit more. Im not trying to thumbwhore, i just want others to know of this brilliant man, and how it proves that the nicest people can come from even the most hateful bastards on the planet. Thanyou for your time funny junk.

Its his favourite part because he grew up in what would have been a family that constantly filled his mind with christian values aswell as their ****** up christian views. Its amazing that he became an atheist after being raised by such twisted people. It shows that he has an open mind and is able to overcome the odds. Atheism doesnt make you better necessarily but in this situation it speaks for his character.

Not really. If I was abused in the name of religion when I was younger I would want to stay as far away from it as possible, regardless how I actually felt. What WOULD be Ironic is if he STAYED a christian and simply followed the good teachings of it, still believing that good can be made out of it

Just wanted to let OP know that he is a faggot. Why the **** is your "favourite part" the fact that he's an atheist? I couldn't care less if he was a super-Muslim-Hindu-Pastafarian. What matters here is that despite the disgraceful treatment this man had as a child, he still fights for what he believes in, which is equality for all. Stop trying to make this another "all atheists are awesome" post, since there are members of basically every religion on the planet that campaign for the same thing.

FOR THE LAST TIME. I ADDED THAT BECAUSE THE FAVOURITE PART OF THIS STORY IS THE IRONY THAT THIS MAN IS AN ATHEIST. NOT THE FACT THAT HE IS AN ATHEIST. Although, I do admit, it was probably my fault for not putting that in originally.

I've noticed that a lot of the atheists that don't like to bash others for their beliefs (unless those other religions attack atheists or each other) like to stick together.

There's some sort of emotional attachment to someone who can not believe in what another believes and still respect others for their beliefs. Even if you do not know them.

Well it was probably just put there to show just how stark the contrast between him and his family is. They believe in what they say so intensely, that everyone knows and hates them.. while he pretty much acknowledges none of that, and the existence of god at all.
